An addressable I/O module is a device that is used to connect input and output devices to a fire alarm control panel (FACP). Input devices can be things like pull stations, water flow switches, and heat detectors. Output devices can be things like horns, strobes, and fire dampers.
Addressable I/O modules are typically used in addressable fire alarm systems. Addressable fire alarm systems are more complex than conventional fire alarm systems, but they offer a number of advantages, including:
- The ability to identify the exact location of a fire alarm or fault
- The ability to isolate sections of the fire alarm system in the event of a fault
- The ability to provide more detailed information to the fire department
